Who is Captain America, anyway? I looked it up and noticed the phrase “whatever it takes” and “endgame”. Really, I guess I should be embarrassed. I just don’t follow the Super Hero genre enough to even fake it. I’ll admit one thing, though (as though I haven’t already admitted enough). We need a Captain America about now.
I have a feeling that what we visualize and what is needed are two different things. (You can share your opinions about our last Presidential election with your cat or – if you’re a decent sort – with your dog.) And I will spare you my very strong opinions. For once. (I think I can hear my FB ‘friends’ and ‘friends of friends’ applauding with zeal.)
Because what is needed isn’t a guy with a cape. It’s someone any size, any strength, any language, any status with the stamina to pray. Do you want to be that warrior?
I’ve written a number of posts about prayer. I’ve listed a few at the end of this post. There are more on this site if you care to look them up. But reading about something isn’t the same as actually doing it, as you and every geography teacher well know.
And I have some news! We’re not the only ones who care about prayer! (Okay and yes, I rhymed on purpose.)
#BendedKnee is a challenge to commit to stopping whatever you’re doing, wherever you are, and praying every Wednesday at 1:11 pm EST. This is a request for Unity: unity of believers and unity for the (ahem) United States of America. 3 minutes. That’s it. Not too much to ask to turn our ship in the right direction, is it?
Another prayer group, Strike Force of Prayer, prays over the phone with as many people as call in, as far as I understand. They pray at 11:00 am central time every Tuesday and Thursday. A friend of mine calls in every Friday and prays with what I think is the same group. I’d put her contact information here, but I really would like her to keep talking to me so I’ll just post the site at the bottom with the others.
If you’re the kind of person who would rather stick with what you know (and, believe me, I know) get those prayer meetings going again. You know the ones: The ones where Howard’s bull’s ability to sire is prayed for along with the Nelson’s Carnival Cruise, the flooding in the corner of the church basement, and the youth group’s mission trip. And while you’re at it, take real time to confess specific sins (not somebody else’s, yours; and if you’ve got a doozy, maybe in private or with a trustworthy soul lest the whole group leaves en masse with red faces). And pray for unity. If it was our Savior’s last prayer, it should surely be ours. We are, after all, at the endgame.
